Rink of Beasts
About this drama
This one packs an entire arc into six sentences, so I'll unpack it in order. Tough photographer Hayes breaks up with his cheating ex Isaiah and crashes with friends, where he clashes with tattooed ice hockey captain Miles. The clash turns into a deal: they fake a relationship to salvage Miles' scandalized image, and the money side is unusually specific, because it's for Hayes' mom's medical bills. That's the trade, image repair on one side and hospital bills on the other, and you can see why neither of them is doing it for romance. Then the copy skips straight to what the title is about, which is them falling for each other. The complication is the ex, since Isaiah leaks their contract, and the leak tears them apart. I want to note what the blurb does with its ending, because it gives it away in a single line: Miles comes out publicly at the finals, proposing to Hayes. So this is a story with a known destination, and the drama lives in the middle, in the fake arrangement, in the leak, and in whatever breakdown follows it. Thirty episodes for that run. What's unlisted is everything around the edges: what Miles' scandal actually was, how Isaiah gets his hands on the contract, and whether the proposal at the finals lands the way it's staged to.
