Mrs. Pei Wants to Return to Countryside
About this drama
Alexander Sterling gets drugged outside by accident and has an intimate encounter with Emily Rosewood, a woman working farmland. He's a responsible man about it, in his particular way: he gives her his heirloom necklace and promises to formally wed her if she ever seeks him out with it. Emily's response is the first real turn, she disregards the necklace and tells nobody. She changes clothes and gets on with her life, and then the copy's last line arrives with a comma running two words together, which I've spaced normally here: her friend chances upon the necklace and crosses paths with one of Alexander's subordinates. That's where it stops, three sentences of setup and a dangling coincidence, sixty-eight episodes of runway and no listed plot after it. So the honest inventory is short: the drugging, the encounter, the necklace, the promise, Emily's silence, the friend, the subordinate. Whether the friend cashes the promise in, whether Alexander goes looking for Emily himself, whether the necklace travels at all, the listing doesn't say, and I won't write those scenes for it. The title suggests Emily's preference runs toward a quiet life, countryside over mansion, but a title isn't a plot. Sixty-eight episodes will have to fill the gap some other way.
