Change of Heart
About this drama
Ian and Zac are joint captains of a high school soccer team, and their years of bitter rivalry are doing double duty, because the attraction underneath never made it to the surface. A fateful locker room kiss breaks the standoff. Then the leak: Dill, Zac's lifelong best friend, who secretly loves him, lets the truth out, and the fallout is school-wide gossip, a brutal fight that ends the friendship, and team suspensions for both captains. Zac's response is retreat, guilt over the exposure and fear of ruining Ian's life, he tries to walk away. Ian's unwavering devotion pulls him back. The two come out publicly, and then the show goes long-distance: college separation, a full year of it, until Thanksgiving, when Zac makes a surprise cross-country trip to Ian's campus and fulfills the promise with the line the whole story has been aimed at, I choose you. Every time. Thirty episodes, and the ending is given in full, which leaves the middle as the open country: how the fight heals, what Dill's aftermath looks like, and how two suspended captains get back on the field. The soccer setting does quiet work here, since the suspensions threaten the one thing both boys actually share, the team.
