Strangers Upon Meeting
About this drama
Fair warning before anything else: the official copy calls the male lead Julian in its first line and Ezra two lines later, so I'll use both names the way the listing does rather than silently pick one. Seven years ago, Vivian donated her corneas to save her lover after his car crash, then vanished while pregnant with their twins. He was deceived by Ezra's mother into believing she died. That's the wound the show runs on. In the present, the blind Vivian raises their two kids selling wontons, which is a detail I'd keep no matter what, it does too much work. A fateful reunion unravels all the lies, and the copy speeds through what follows: jealous Mandy's schemes, family conflicts, and Ezra learning the brutal truth. After countless twists, the family overcomes hardships and finally reunites, ready to start a new life together. The ending is stated outright, so this is a reunion story, not a mystery about whether they reunite. What's withheld is the texture: how the reunion happens, what Mandy's schemes actually target, and why the cornea donation had to end in a disappearance in the first place. Seventy-seven episodes is a long stretch for material this compact on paper, so expect the twists to multiply. The donation itself is the fact I keep coming back to. She gave him her sight and left with his children, and the show has to earn its way back from that.
