The Wrong Life
About this drama
The premise is a ghost story with a body count of one. The real heiress Chloe is killed by the fake one, and full of resentment, her spirit possesses her own body, vowing to avenge herself. So the show's Chloe is both victim and avenger, walking around in the aftermath of her own murder. What follows is a sequence the copy lays out like a battle plan. She crashes the Gu family banquet, exposes her true identity, calls out the family's three years of coldness, fights back against the fake heiress's frame-up, and severs ties with the family. Her eldest brother spots her wounds and softens, but Chloe refuses to reconcile and plans to leave. He threatens her to come home, which pushes Chloe to keep retaliating. The last line is the engine of the back half: she repeatedly thwarts the fake heiress's schemes, revealing the latter's true colors bit by bit. I'd note what's missing, because it's the interesting gap. Sixty-one episodes, and the copy never says how the possession actually works, whether anyone learns that she died, or what the endgame is for the fake heiress once her true colors are fully revealed. The threat from the brother is the detail I keep rereading, since it means the family that froze her out for three years now won't let her leave, and the copy leaves that tension running wide open.
